Our principals and school leaders spent valuable time at a recent Principal Professional Learning meeting to engage in making connections between the Instructional Leadership Team’s (ILT) work and cluster collaborative learning efforts to maximize student success. Each leader created practical steps to strengthen cluster learning and support lasting improvements in student outcomes. This workshop is one of many professional development tactics that are producing positive changes in the classroom.
Assumption Schools Releases Report Card
Assumption Parish Schools recently released a report card on its Return on Investment, showing how student performance is improving across the district.
The district is growing student achievement through intentional structures that support teaching and learning. Through student-focused Instructional Leadership Teams (ILTs) and student-centered Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), educators are equipped to analyze instruction, identify areas for growth, and implement strategies that lead to improved classroom outcomes.
"Our district has made significant progress by embracing a forward-thinking approach to teaching and learning," Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy said.
Assumption Parish School Leader Selected for State Fellows Award
Brandee Gros, Director of Human Resources
Director of Human Resources Brandee Gros will be recognized at the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting next month for receiving the Louisiana Department of Education’s (LDOE) Recruitment and Retention Fellowship for 2025-2026. She is one of 17 professionals selected statewide for the fellowship.
Louisiana, like other states across the nation, is facing serious challenges in maintaining a highly qualified, certified teaching corps. The LDOE launched the first cohort of recruitment and retention fellows in 2020 to address this issue.
The fellowship will allow the selected human resource professionals to collaborate with peers across the state to identify strategies and best practices to attract, support and retain effective educators in public education. They will also engage with national consultants from the Urban Schools Human Capital Academy to gain insights and strategies from the across the country.
“This is a tremendous honor for our human resources director to be selected for this cohort,” Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy said. “Congratulations to Mrs. Gros and her staff for being recognized by the state for professionalism and dedication to advancing the quality of learning in our classrooms.”
Local 5th Grader Competes in International Bull Riders Rodeo
Napoleonville Elementary’s Cooper Phelps recently competed at the International Miniature Bull Riders Association’s World Finals Rodeo in Ogden, Utah.
Napoleonville Elementary’s Cooper Phelps recently earned a spot to compete at the International Miniature Bull Riders Association’s (IMBA) World Finals Rodeo in Ogden, Utah.
Phelps, who is in the 5th grade, has been riding steers and mini bulls competitively for the last three years. He has earned titles across Louisiana and Texas, including the 2024 Acadiana Youth Rodeo Association (Crowley, LA) Champion Steer rider and All-Around Cowboy. He is the 2025 Dirty South Bull Riders Association (Orange, TX) Champion Steer rider, and when he competed at the DEL Cajun Showdown Series (Egan, LA) earlier this year, he was the Champion 11U Mini Bull rider, which qualified him for the IMBA World Finals.
At the IMBA Word Finals, Phelps rode in four rounds of competition. He won 1st place in round one, 2nd place in round two, and was bucked off in the semifinal and final rounds; still, his scores earned him the 4th overall ranking in the IMBA World Finals out of 43 11U riders. Phelps’ top-level performance earned him cash money and a prized belt buckle.
He will be headed to his next youth steer riding in Ada, Oklahoma in early October, where he plans to continue his riding competition at the Professional Youth Rough Stock Association’s World Finals Rodeo.
September is Attendance Awareness Month
September is designated Attendance Awareness Month to inform students and parents of the importance of regular school attendance.
School attendance is essential to academic success. Reports show that students who miss nine or more school days a year are more likely to be held back or even drop out.
Parents are encouraged o establish regular bedtime and morning schedules, to avoid vacations and extended trips while school is in session, to schedule medical appointments after school when possible, to send children to school unless truly sick and to arrive to school on time.
The district has resources to help reduce absenteeism and to engage students in daily learning. Visit ??? or call the central administration office for more information.
AHS Homecoming Parade Set
The Assumption Alumni Association is sponsoring this year’s Assumption High School Homecoming Parade, set for Oct. 2. The parade will begin rolling at 5 p.m., followed by a pep rally in Mustang Stadium.
Mustang fans are invited to line up along the parade route to see student-decorated floats pass by.
A special thank you goes out to the many volunteers who helped with preparations, meals and organizing the event.
