First graders in Taylor Gauthreaux’s class at Bayou L’Ourse Primary School recently participated in a dance contest for their adopted class cow, Flora. The students adopted the class cow through the Discover Dairy program.

Discover Dairy is an interactive cross-curricular, multi-leveled lesson series that meets state education standards and anchors for science, math and reading. The program also incorporates social studies concepts to show students where milk comes from and how dairy farms contribute to our world.

Each month the students receive activities that involve information on the dairy industry. They receive updates on their cow, videos of life on the farm and pictures of how she is growing and developing. Ms. Gauthreaux also has a stuffed cow that students can take turns spending time with.

Assumption Parish Schools’ Business Services Accountant Lasha Patterson was recently recognized at the Spring 2023 Louisiana Association of School Business Officials (LASBO) Conference for meeting the requirements to become a Certified Louisiana School Business Specialist.

LASBO’s Professional Certification Program is a mark of distinction, reflecting the highest honor of professional achievement in school business management.

The program offers both acknowledgement and recognition for professionals at all levels of school business management. Certification is a way of recognizing those individuals with the background, training, and on-the-job experience to meet recognized standards of professional competence.

“We are very proud of Ms. Patterson’s accomplishment and her dedication to her profession,” Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy said.  “We are grateful to LASBO for its many resources and focus on professionalism.”
