Assumption Schools Begin New Year with Special Visit from Louisiana Superintendent of Education

Assumption Parish School System employees recently gathered at the Assumption Parish Civic Center for a “back-to-school” kick-off celebration, where they heard of encouragement and guidance from local school leaders in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year, including a special visit from the state’s top education leader.

                  Louisiana School Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley addressed the crowd of teachers, school administrators and staff who were dressed in navy blue t-shirts with the year’s back-to-school theme of “Igniting Excellence.” The event included presentations on various guidelines and requirements, entertainment by local students, and refreshments and giveaways provided by local businesses.

                  “I am so honored to be back with you, and to celebrate with you the start of a great school year. I want to commend you on the job you are doing,” Brumley said.

                  Brumley told the crowd he had visited some of the district’s schools last school year and was pleased to see familiar faces and reconnect with local educators. He also said he made a point to check the state’s most recent accountability scores to see the reports on those schools he visited.

                  “I am so proud of the tremendous growth and gains that have been made here. Congratulations to you and your team for your success,” he said. He specifically pointed out the growth shown by Napoleonville Primary School, asking them to stand to be recognized.

                  The state’s measurement of improved literacy among early grade levels, which was released over the summer, showed Assumptions Parish’s K-3 students had a 21-percent increase overall in reading on or above grade level for beginning to end of school year comparisons. That same report showed every grade improved with kindergarten students posting the largest gains.

                  “Your dedication and commitment to our students is making a difference, and it’s being noticed at the state level,” Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy said to the district’s employees. “Let’s continue that progress in this new school year.”
