Students Can Access Free Flexible Learning Opportunities through Assumption Parish Schools Programs
Assumption Parish Schools is offering flexible learning options to families who are seeking a nontraditional educational structure to accommodate their children’s needs, allowing them to stay in their local school community and remain enrolled in the public school district.
Students can take 100% of their classes online through the Assumption Parish Schools Virtual Academy. The classes are accessible from anywhere. Students in the program will remain part of the Assumption Parish School System, making them eligible to participate in school clubs, sports and events. They also will be eligible to graduate with a standard APSB diploma.
At the same time, the district is offering students who are homeschooled to sign up to receive additional opportunities for dual enrollment, as well as participation in clubs and organizations, sports and school sponsored events.
“Our goal is to provide learning pathways that benefit all the students in our communities so they can have access to the coursework and curricula they need to gain a meaningful education to improve their quality of life and greater understanding of today’s expectations and opportunities so they can have a successful, productive life,” said Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy.
“The Virtual Academy provides a rigorous, flexible online program for self-motivated students. This program is a great alternative for students who thrive in a more flexible environment,” Barthelemy said.
Barthelemy noted that the Virtual Academy allows students to learn at their own pace from anywhere, reducing environmental stressors and accommodating diverse learning styles. The academy provides a rigorous, flexible online program for self-motivated students.
He said the opportunities available to homeschoolers will allow them greater access to classes offered by local colleges and technical colleges, as well as access to social activities, events, programs and prescriptive support to help the students be well-rounded. Additionally, students would not have to take entrance exams to enter back into the Assumption Parish School System. The district’s Pupil Progression Plan Handbook outlines the options and requirements.
