Child Find Awareness Month
October is Child Find Awareness Month. Child Find applies to any individual with a disability, from birth through 21 years old, who is not currently receiving special education services. It also covers individuals who may be gifted and/or talented between the ages of 3 and 21 who are not receiving special education or related services. Child Find forms are sent home with report cards twice a year and are also available at http://assumptionschools.com/child-search year-round.
For infants and toddlers from birth to 3 years old, Child Find activities may be provided through Early Steps. Early Steps is an early intervention system within the Louisiana Department of Health, Office for Citizens with Developmental Disabilities. Referrals are accepted through Misty McCarthy, Child Search Coordinator designee at the Assumption Parish Pupil Appraisal Center, by calling (985) 999-5113 or the Region III Early Steps Systems Point of Entry (SPOE) office at (985) 447-6550.
