Assumption Parish Schools Director of Human Resources Brandee Gros is part of a 17-member team of human resource professionals who recently completed the Louisiana Department of Education’s (LDOE) Recruitment and Retention Fellowship.

The fellowship recipients were recognized at the October meeting of the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).

“I am to have had the opportunity to collaborate with my peers across the state to identify strategies and best practices to attract, support and retain qualified, effective educators and support staff for our district,” Gros said.

The fellowship required participants to design projects to better manage, recruit and retain talent in K-12 education. The fellows have also engaged with national consultants from the Urban Schools Human Capital Academy to gain insights and strategies from the across the country.

“This has been a tremendous honor for our human resources director to be selected for this cohort,” Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy said. “Congratulations to Mrs. Gros for being recognized by the state for her professionalism and dedication to advancing the quality of learning in our classrooms.”

Louisiana, like other states across the nation, faces serious challenges in maintaining a highly qualified, certified teaching corps. The LDOE launched the first cohort of recruitment and retention fellows in 2020 to address this issue.
