Interim Isolation and Quarantine Guidance for Assumption Parish Schools (Revised 01-13-22)

Student Related Situations

If you test positive for COVID-19, Isolate

  • 5 days of isolation (with the stipulations noted in the new guidance) are the “new normal”, and thus, the need for testing as a requirement to return on a shortened quarantine period is eliminated.

  • Day 1 of isolation now begins the day after symptom onset or positive test if asymptomatic.

  • If you have no symptoms or your symptoms are resolving after 5 days, you can return to school on day 6.

  • If you have a fever, continue to stay home until your fever resolves.

  • Continue to wear a mask for 5 additional days (Day 6 thru 10). Failure to follow this LDH masking requirement will result in the student having to be isolated for the full 10-days.

If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19, Quarantine

  • Students who have completed the primary series of an mRNA vaccine:

    • No quarantine needed if asymptomatic

    • No quarantine is needed if both the positive individual and the contact were engaged in the consistent and correct use of a well-fitting face mask and were greater than 3 feet from each other

  • Students who are unvaccinated:

    • 5 days of quarantine (close contact) - (with the stipulations noted in the new guidance) are the “new normal”, and thus, the need for testing as a requirement to return on a shortened quarantine period is eliminated.

    • Day 1 of isolation now begins the day after COVID exposure.

    • Testing on or day 6 of quarantine is strongly recommended by LDH, but not required.

    • No quarantine if both the positive individual and the contact were engaged in consistent and correct use of a well-fitting face mask and were greater than 3 feet from each other.

PRIOR INFECTION QUARANTINE EXEMPTION: If someone has had a confirmed case of Covid-19 in the last 90 days, they do not have to quarantine following an exposure. However, if they develop new symptoms at any point after a new exposure, they should seek testing immediately.
