Tropical Storm / Hurricane Ida Update #1
Assumption Parish Schools will be closed on Monday, August 30. However, depending on the track and damages from the storm, we may extend our system closure beyond Monday. Please plan accordingly. Take care of yourself and your family. This storm has to potential to cause severe life-threatening damages. Therefore, our parish will begin calling voluntary and mandatory evacuations soon. Currently, the storm is expected to make landfall in Terrebonne Parish late (7 pm) Sunday as a category 3 storm (115 mph winds). But, remember, this is a prediction. Things can change for the better or worse. We will know more information as the storm gets closer to the gulf and shoreline. Planning for the worst-case scenario is the most important thing you can do at this moment. OEP suggests not to go to the New Orleans area when evacuating and recommends going further east (Mississippi or Alabama), west (Texas), or North (up I-49). These are merely suggestions and encourage you to make the best decision for you and your family. Be safe, don't wait, and be prepared.
