The students at Pierre Part Elementary were asked to create a flag for this year’s celebration of Veteran's Day.  Over the course of several months, all the students brought in bottle caps and lids of all types, and more than 33,000 caps and lids were collected. The caps were glued onto the board, painted, and mounted for future events for the school. Those students in the school’s Gifted and Talented program for Visual Arts helped to create the final product.

Consultants Present Master Plan Recommendations to School Board

Planning consultants with CSRS recently presented to school board members their recommendations for the district’s Master Plan.  The recommendations seek to create a more efficient and effective school system that not only meets the academic needs of students, but also adapts to the changing demographics and available resources of the parish.

The recommendations are based on the results of a complete evaluation of the district’s nine campuses, including input from stakeholders in all communities. The evaluation process began during the summer with as assessment of facility conditions, followed by a demographic study and community engagement in the fall.  The board has posted the recommendations on the district website at for public view and input, including an FAQ section.

“It became clear that restructuring the system to maximize the use of existing resources is essential,” the report states. “With fewer students and an aging infrastructure, the current configuration of the school system is no longer sustainable. The need for a long-term solution is urgent, one that will improve both the financial efficiency and academic effectiveness of the district.”

The plan recommends reducing the number of campuses while preserving access to education for every community. Specifically, the plan proposes a streamlined model of PK-6 elementary schools feeding into a 7-12 combination school at the Assumption High School campus. As a result, the district would reduce from nine campuses to six, streamlining operations, reducing maintenance costs and improving overall school system efficiency.

Voters Overwhelming Renew School Funding

Assumption Parish voters on Dec. 7 overwhelmingly approved the renewal of three dedicated millage assessments to fund the school district.

More than 70% of the voters voted YES for each of the three renewal propositions. Complete precinct results are available at the Louisiana Secretary of State website.

The millage assessments combined bring in nearly $7.8 million annually and have been long-standing funding sources for the school system. These millages are NOT new taxes, and their approval will NOT increase millage rates currently in effect. Each of the millage assessments were renewed for 10 years.

“As we move forward, this continued funding allows us to focus on delivering the high-quality education and innovative programs that our students and employees need to succeed,” said Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy.

Assumption Parish Schools has announced those top student winners for the 2024-2025 school year.

The Elementary Student of the Year is Annalyse Verdin, a fifth grader at Pierre Part Elementary; the Middle School Student of the Year is Mya Mollere, an eighth grader at Napoleonville Middle School; and the High School Student of the Year is Ava Blanchard, a senior at Assumption High School.

“This recognition honors young individuals in our system who exemplify academic, leadership and character excellence,” said Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy. “Congratulations to all students participating in the program and to those school leaders who manage the program and make it a success.”

The winners were nominated by their schools, and they competed against other Student of the Year winners from throughout the district.  As representatives for Assumption Parish Schools, they will compete at the state’s regional competition for the opportunity to become a finalist for the Louisiana Department of Education’s top award.
