District Improves Campus Security

Assumption Parish Schools is investing nearly $900,000 this summer into safety measures that will improve the overall security of the campuses receiving improvements.

Three campuses – Assumption High School, Napoleonville Middle and Napoleonville Primary – are being reconstructed to create single point entries with electronic lock systems. Campus visitors will be given monitored access to secured waiting areas that restrict traffic on campuses.

Maintenance Director Dwayne Aucoin said contractors are utilizing existing classroom and storage space in the campuses’ main hall areas to create the secured entrance areas.

He said the improvement also include a new 8-foot security fence around Napoleonville Primary School.

Aucoin said the projects, which are being funded through two federal grants, $625,000 from COPS and $129,200 from Connections, for a total of $886,310, are expected to be completed in August.

Pierre Part Elementary School was among the winners of this year’s “Love the Boot” contest, sponsored by the Louisiana Lieutenant Governor’s Office and Keep Louisiana Beautiful program.

The school enlisted 110 volunteers to pick up 9,850 pounds of litter and refurbish two local gardens with 40 new plants as part of the campaign’s effort.

“The school’s young volunteers demonstrated exceptional environmental leadership,” Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser said. “I commend them for their efforts to clean up and beautify Louisiana.”
