Assumption Parish’s Early Childhood Day Offers Families Fun and Resources

School District Still Taking Early Learning Registrations

The Assumption Parish School System’s Ready Start Network recently hosted an Early Childhood Day for all Assumption Parish families with children five (5) years of age and younger, offering them free access to summer fun activities and educational resources.

The activities were held at the Assumption Parish Community Center, and included face painting, bounce houses, pony rides, music entertainment and more. The event also featured educational resources for families to take home.

“Our Early Childhood Day is a great time for the community to come together to engage their children in fun, learning activities and to access resources that can continue fun learning activities at home,” said Elementary Education and Early Childhood Director Rachel Dugas.

Parents were encouraged to register their children for early learning opportunities in the district. Dugas said registration is open now for the district’s day care, Head Start, pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten classes.

“Early learning is the key to a successful educational career for every child,” Dugas said. “Research shows that learning to read in the early pre-K and early elementary years is the strongest predictor of a child’s ability to achievement academic success.”

Dugas encouraged parents to visit her office at 4891 Highway 308 in Napoleonville, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., if they have questions about the district’s early learning options. The age requirements for the parish’s early programs are as follows:

·      Head Start students must be three (3) before Sept. 30, 2025

·      Pre-Kindergarten students must be four (4) before Sept. 30, 2025

·      Les Petits Amis Early Learning Center accepts students 6 weeks to 48 months old

·      Cribs to Crayons Early Learning Center accepts students 6 weeks to 48 months old

“We want our families to take full advantage of the early learning opportunities we have in our parish,” Dugas said.  “Assumption Parish Schools is committed to offering early learning in safe, structured environments for all aged children.”

Dugas thanked the many educators, local community leaders and businesses who volunteered for the event.
