District Maintains “B” Rating

Students in Assumption Parish Schools have improved their overall academic performance for the second consecutive year, according to the latest accountability report issued by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE).

The report shows the district has increased its overall school performance score to 81.8, up 1.2 points from last year’s score of 80.6, and up more than 3 points from the previous year’s score of 78.7. The sustained academic growth has allowed the district to maintain a “B” Rating with the state.

“We are certainly pleased with the continuous academic improvements we are seeing across our district. This upward trend is seen in several of the K8 and high school indices used to calculate the school performance score,” said Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy.

Some of the district’s greatest gains came in the high school assessment index and progress index, as well as the high school graduation rates and strength of diploma categories. Assumption Parish Schools holds an “A” Rating for its graduation rates and strength of diploma. At the same time, the district saw tremendous gains in its K8 interest and opportunities index, growing from 114.6 points to 140.2 points in that category.

In addition to the district’s overall performance score improving, Assumption High School, Napoleonville Primary School, and Pierre Part Elementary also saw increases in their individual School Performance Scores.

Four schools were also recognized as Top Gains Honorees. They are Assumption High School, Napoleonville Primary School, Napoleonville Middle School and Bayou L’Ourse Primary School.  The high school was also named an Opportunity Honoree.

“Our district is wisely investing our resources in improving how we instruct and guide our children by giving our teachers the tools and support they need to enhance learning in their classrooms,” Barthelemy said.

Over the past four years, the district has immersed its teachers in professional development, increased the utilization of technology and hand-on learning projects for students, and embraced the Leader in Me program that focuses on developing high-reaching, proactive students. The district has also begun its own program to grow highly qualified, certified teachers from within its ranks.

The Assumption Parish School District is committed to providing students with the best educational experience by not only making a significant investment in teacher development but also prioritizing individualized learning. The district has taken key steps to ensure all students have access to high quality technological and instructional materials, empowering them to succeed.

“Our teachers and staff are doing the day-to-day work to move our district forward. We will continue to invest in them to strengthen our instruction at every level,” Barthelemy said.

“We are dedicated to using the insights from this latest report to find even more ways to support our students and continue our progress,” he said. “Our commitment is to invest every resource wisely, ensuring that every dollar has a positive impact on every child’s education and future.”
