CALENDAR

Assumption High School recently recognized staff and community members who are former graduates of the school during a week-long Alumni Pride Week, culminating with recognition at a home football game.

It was a great display of pride for the school, and an opportunity to showcase the impact AHS is having on today’s professional setting.  AHS alumni are serving the parish and greater region in a wide variety of professions and services.  Special thanks to all who returned to the campus for the occasion!

Assumption School Leaders to Evaluate Best Use of Resources, to Seek Community Input

Superintendent Dr.  John Barthelemy, pictured back center, shares ideas with school district leaders on how they can gain student, staff, community and stakeholder feedback on the district’s existing resources to determine what improvements can be made.

Assumption Parish School leaders are endeavoring to do a thorough examination of the district’s many resources to determine what changes may be needed to better prioritize efforts and spending to impact student improvement and advancement.

“We are taking a comprehensive look at how we are structured and how we are currently allocating our resources to determine whether there is a way to realign our current structure to invest more into those efforts that directly impact student growth and teacher effectiveness,” Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy said.

“Our mindset is that everything in our district should be structured to garner the best results for our students,” Dr. Barthelemy said.  “I know that our community members expect us to be wise stewards of our resources, and our children and employees deserve best practices for best results.  Knowing that, we are looking at every way we can advance our system with our existing resources.”

Dr. Barthelemy said district leaders will be collecting data from community members, students, staff, school board members and other stakeholders as well as internal departments in the coming months to gain a greater perspective.

District Leadership Team Formed to Enhance Teacher Support

Assumption Parish’s school teachers will be receiving even greater support this school year, thanks to a newly formed District Instructional Leadership Team that is aligned with NIET best practices with support from the NIET staff to assist them with advancing student learning. The district team will work with Instructional Leadership Teams at each campus throughout the 2023-2024 school year.

“The intent is to align the goals for our district to individual student needs. We are taking a very systematic approach to breaking down assessment data to help our teachers better understand each child’s strengths and weaknesses,” Director of Curriculum & Instruction Kathi Aucoin said.

Aucoin compared their educational training efforts to learning how to teach coaches to look at game film or showing political consultants how to review polling data to better identify ways for players to improve their game or how to better position candidates to win races.

“There is a lot of data available – state testing, benchmarks and universal screenings – that can help us better understand where our students are and how to make improvements.  At the same time, we will implement monitoring and tracking efforts to make sure our efforts are meeting all our students’ needs,” Aucoin said.

Campuses Hold Open House Events for Parents

Napoleonville Primary

During the month of September, school leaders welcomed parents to their campuses to gain greater familiarity with their children’s activities and routines.  Principals, campus administrators and faculty hosted assembly gatherings for general introductions and in-class presentations for a greater understanding of expectations for their children.

“Our Open House events are always a great time for parents to get to know our teachers and campus administrators, and to learn ways they can be more involved in their child’s learning,” Superintendent Dr. John Barthelemy said.

Dr. Barthelemy thanked those parents who participated in the Open House events, and he encouraged them to stay engaged with their child’s school throughout the school year.

“We want our parents to know that we welcome their involvement, and we look forward to a great year of partnership for success,” he said.
