Assumption Parish Library Summer Reading Program

The 2020 Assumption Parish Library Summer Reading Program will begin on May 26. Forms will be available outside each library and other locations throughout the parish. Participants may register at any of the five library branches. Participants will participate with the branch they are registered. An adult must register children. Each participant is to visit the location where they registered once to receive an incentive. One "Reader of the Week" will be chosen per week per branch. To qualify for "Reader of Week" participants must read a minimum of 10 picture books ( listener, reader) or 1 chapter (tween, teen) Upon completion of the set goal, participants will receive a certificate of completion and a ticket to be entered into the Summer Reading Program Grand Prize Drawing.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are allowing listeners, readers, tweens, and teens to utilize books from their home library as well as Assumption Parish Library (APL) books. Adults must use books from the APL.

Listeners' Guidelines
Listeners are considered children not yet of reading age and individuals who are not reading independently. Parents, grandparents, siblings, or caregivers may read books to listeners. The titles of the books listened to at APL Story Times may be added to the reading logs. Listeners will receive a prize after listening to 10 books and each additional ten books, up to a set goal of 30 books.

Readers' Guidelines
Readers are considered independent readers between the grades of Kindergarten during the previous school year and 3rd grade in the fall of the upcoming school year. Readers will receive an incentive after reading ten books and each additional ten books up to a set goal of 30 books.

Tween/Teen Guidelines
Tweens and teens are considered independent readers who are entering the 4th through 12th grades in the upcoming school year. Tweens and Teens are encouraged to read 3 chapter books at their appropriate reading level. Tweens and Teens will receive an incentive after reading a chapter book and each additional chapter book up to a set goal of 3 chapter books.

Adults' Guidelines
For anyone ages 18 and older, participants set their own reading goals. Participant names will go into the drawing after completing an individualized goal.
